Stroke 101

Stroke is one of the top causes of disability — but knowledge and action change the story.

Signs of a Stroke

One moment. That’s all the time it takes. Learn BE FAST and be ready.

Be Fast
  • Balance-  Notice stumbling, dizziness, or unsteadiness?

  • Eyes- Any sudden changes in vision?

  • Face – Is one side drooping when smiling?

  • Arm – Does one arm drift down when raised?

  • Speech – Words are slurred or odd?

  • Time – Time matters. Note when symptoms start.

If you see any of these warning signs, call 911 immediately.

Common Effects of a Stroke

Strokes can cause a number of significant changes to the survivor. Some of these include the following:

Physical impact: poor balance, weakness or paralysis, vision issues, stiffness and pain; Cognitive impact: truble speaking or understanding words, difficulty focusing or problem-solving, memory loss.

Occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech may be recommended by a doctor to assist with recovery.

Whether you’re a survivor or caregiver, it can be overwhelming—but you don’t have to face it alone. If you’ve had a stroke or care for someone who has, we offer in-home and telehealth rehab tailored to your goals.

Stroke is the leading cause of

long-term disability.
